Well guys...the plans continue to shift. With everything that has happened in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak near me, I have chosen to adapt my vocational goals to help my local community here during this pandemic. I am excited to share that I will begin working as a COVID-19 contact tracer (likely by June 1st) in order to help educate individuals on how to keep themselves and others safe while also tracking the progression of this virus as we continue to learn more every day. I really feel called to do this and that it will be the best way I can support my community while staying at home.
I know that it will not be an easy job, but I am confident that it will be a rewarding one for several reasons: educating the population on measures to prevent spreading COVID-19... helping families get the resources they need during times of intense turbulence...using backwards deduction to create a more comprehensive map to inform our future research. And perhaps most importantly....intentionally supporting and checking in with those who have been positively diagnosed with this scary illness and providing a lifeline, even if remotely.
If you, or anyone you know, is interested in becoming a COVID-19 contact tracer, please do not hesitate to reach out and I can get you in touch with people who can help you help others.
Prepare, don’t panic, friends.
-Allison
